Zakia A. began her fashion career in 1995 when she joined Fus Europe, an established sports clothing manufacturer in Lavaure, Franceand. She continued diversifying her portfolio in Casablanca, Morocco with the Sociétées Dalia, Benjitex & Artimeuble, followed by two years gaining practical experience at several New York City design boutiques.

Throughout her professional growth, she developed diverse design skills working with haute couture, sportswear, infant and children’s fashion, traditional clothing, and even luxury interior fabrics. Her international exposure in sourcing textiles and accessories coupled with her regional knowledge reflect a unique sense of style.

Zakia first introduced her designs in the United Arab Emirates in 2000, creating varied traditional Moroccan kaftans. She created custom clothing for private clientele for the next decade in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Zakia established tissage couture modeste in 2010, catering to ladies who enjoyed modern design, but many of whom had expressed frustration with the limited options available for those who preferred to wear less revealing clothes. The first line of tissage abayas – loose, black robes worn in public – were launched at the Lakee Abaya Center; and by 2011, tissage expanded its collections to include long dresses, shirts, jackets, headscarves and accessories. Today, tissage is carried in boutiques throughout the United Arab Emirates.
